Born and raised in Hampton, VA, Tynita has been jumping in the national spotlight since since most of the rest of us were just hoping to pass a driver's test.
Before graduating from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA, Ty would earn four Nike National Outdoor Championships, was a two-time state champion, and two-time Penn Relays champion, en route to a top national ranking in the high jump, and 2nd in the long jump her senior year. She would then take her talents to Pirate Nation and East Carolina University. She would continue her dominance in the purple and gold, earning a spot in the 2012 Olympic Trials High Jump Final, 2014 Penn Relays MVP Field Athlete, and 6 NCAA All- American honors, all while studying to a degree in Applied Sociology, minoring in Marriage and Family. Ty's tenacity on the track is balanced by her persona off the track, stating, "On the track I see myself as a lioness, a competitor, I'm ready to step out of my comfort zone to go after what I want. Off the track I'm such a hippie free-spirited person. I'm a much more peaceful person, I enjoy the simple things. I like to keep track separate from my personal so that I keep in perspective where I started from."
When it is time to relax and let her hair down, Ty enjoys singing and playing the guitar, along with watching both scary and comedy movies. A woman of Faith and Family, Ty has two brothers and one sister.
