Born and raised in Bangor, ME, Riley attended Bangor H.S. prior to the University of Maine. After two year at UM, Riley transition to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree. While competing at the collegiate level, Riley was a three-time NCAA All-American and the 2012 Big XII 1500m Champion. He turned pro in 2013 and now trains under coach Mark Wetmore in Boulder, CO.
