Living in Shippensburg, I thought this pirate/sailor costume for my little brother Eli and I was clever. Also, the same year, Dillon (my bf at the time and now my husband) and I carved this pumpkin for the team before our conference meet!
Here I am as a lion when I was young. I always remember it was a big deal what to be for the gymnastics Halloween party each year. This is one of my favorites as a child and apparently I was getting into it by "roaring"!
Halloween was always a blast. I mean what's better than getting free candy with your friends and dressing up? I grew up in Buffalo, NY so the weather on Halloween was always a question mark. Usually I tried to pick a costume that was warm, just like this lion one.
My favorite part of Halloween was always making my own costume from scratch. My mom and I would plan it all out together, and I remember having to start it as early as August every year because they would get pretty elaborate. Specifically, my favorite would have to be the time I dressed as Cleopatra in 3rd grade.
This one in particular is dear to my heart because it involved going to the library earlier that year and doing enough research to have a “historically accurate” costume, or as historically accurate of a costume a 3rd grader could make. Unfortunately I can’t find a photo of it, but this is my second favorite costume, a T-Rex, and an ode to my former (and current) dinosaur obsession.
My love of superheroes started very early on as you can tell. My grandmother used to make my costumes, I remember going to the supply store and thinking no way were these supplies going to make anything! Every year I was surprised.
