Born and raised on a wildlife preserve north of Chicago, Carolina's (Carol-EE-na) first passions were competitive gymnastics and diving, both of which she competed in at the club and high school level. While at Lake Forest High School, she lettered all four years in those sports and track and field, and during her senior year, captured the state championship in the pole vault. From there, she took her talents to the University of Memphis, where the accolades kept coming. She is the Memphis Tigers pole vault indoor and outdoor school record holder, the American Athletic Conference record holder, an indoor conference champion, and a three-time outdoor conference champion. All that, plus three All-American honors while earning a degree in Sport and Leisure Management and a Master's in Sport Commerce. Though she was fresh out of college, Carolina qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. As for her future intent on the track, it is clear, as she states, "I am 100% dedicated to the sport of track and field. This includes the way I approach my diet, training, and competition. My parent's instilled a strong work ethic in me and that carries into all facets of my life. My family and my faith is my foundation for how I approach life."
Off the track, due to her unique upbringing on the wildlife preserve, as long as she can remember, Carolina has been positively impacted by the animals she grew up with. "From a young age, I helped take care of the wildlife, which even included veterinary care. One of my favorite animals that I have grown up with is Boris the Bobcat. I have worked with crocodiles, lizards, birds of prey, & venomous snakes." As for utliizing her experience to encourage the next generation of track stars, Carolina says, "As a USATF Level I Certified Coach, I want to inspire the youth to enjoy the sport of track and field as much as I have over the years. I have made lifelong friends from many countries as a result of my involvement in track and field. I will always take the time to mentor the beginner athletes in this sport. I want to also follow my parents' foot steps and have my own animal sanctuary someday. "
Carolina continue to train in Memphis under University of Memphis pole vault coach Tyler Frazier.
