That face you make when you had a fast day! Still smiling today after yesterday’s 800m race at the JDL Fast Track. The future is bright for the 2018 Victory Over Vasculitis tour! While 1:55 might be light years from my PR, it’s remarkable when I think about where I was 1 year ago, 6 months ago, 3 months ago, and even 1 month ago.
I’m reminded of my tumultuous journey over the last year. One year ago this week I lined up for what was supposed to be a simple pacing duty job. What transpired was the realization that my vasculitis had returned. I could no longer ignore the sinus and ear infections with constant blood and pain. My worst fear had come true.

It was a long solo drive back to Boone, NC from Lexington, KY that dat. And the year would only getting tougher. Blood, sweat, tears, aches, pains, and near kidney loss would be my story for the next 9 months. But since my immunotherapy treatment in September, I’ve felt better with every passing week. Now with my 2018 racing season underway, I can finally say I’m seeing glimpses of the National Class distance runner that I know in my heart I was born to be.
There’s still a big chunk of the mountain to finish climbing, but it’s fun to look down over my shoulder and see how high I’ve climbed. Heights don’t scare me, mediocrity does!
