Cameron Bean, formerly of the professional running team ZAP Fitness, was hit by a car while running on Saturday evening in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and died on Monday as a result of his injuries. He was 28.
Bean was a ZAP Fitness team member from 2010-2015, during which he set his 8:32 3,000m steeplechase PR and qualified for the 2013 USATF Outdoor Championship final in the event. Cameron was a 2010 graduate of Samford University in Alabama and, by all accounts, a really special young man.
Thoughts posted today on Facebook by ZAP Fitness leaders Pete Rea & Zika Rea:
To all who have reached out to our athletes and staff at ZAP this week, we thank you. Cameron Bean was full of life and he touched many in his short time here. We will miss his energy, and we were glad to have known him.
Saturday is the day we will all say goodbye to Cameron, but this Saturday will also be a day of great joy for our ZAP Fitness family. One of our long time athletes, a 5 year veteran Cole Atkins, will be marrying a former ZAPster – Esther Erb – in a ceremony here in Blowing Rock. We are excited for their special day and for their new life together. The dichotomy of these 2 events on the same day escapes no one; however, I am quite certain Cameron would tell Cole & Esther to enjoy every minute of Saturday and beyond…..and to make sure the music is loud.
