Reflecting on USA Performances in Beijing

Let’s not allow for us not getting medals in events that we are used to getting them in take away from the hard work and accomplishments of this championship! Michelle Carter won USA’s second outdoor bronze medal in the women’s shot. Joe Kovacs won GOLD in the men’s final and had the longest throw in the World since 2010. Allyson Felix won GOLD in the women’s 400 for the FIRST time. Christian Taylor broke the AMERICAN RECORD, missed the WORLD RECORD by .08cm to get GOLD. Emily Infeld made her first team and got her first medal, bronze, in the 10k. There were first time finals made, first time teams made, and some notable performances.

I can’t speak for anyone else but I’ve grown accustomed to things happening for me year in and year out but this year has been a wake up call. I had forgotten what my hunger was and gotten comfortable.

In order to get something you never had, you have to do something you never have.

Team USA is held to a much higher standard and our biggest competitors are often times ourselves. Maybe some things need to change, I know they are for me. But it’s bigger than an athlete simply working harder.
