News & Notes

Gabriele Grunewald coached Chip Gaines to his first marathon. Completing the Silo District Marathon in his hometown of Waco, TX, Gaines, of Magnolia and HGTV’s Fixer Upper fame, completed the 26.2 miles with his toolbelt in tow, to which Gabriele jested in a post on Instagram, “Okay Chip, as your coach I can deal with the toolbelt but is it too late to negotiate on the whole marathoning-in-pants thing?” When it was all said and done, 100% of the profits from the event went to the Brave Like Gabe Foundation, totaling $250,000 in support for rare cancer research.

Gina Slaby completed the Issy 100 mile, finishing in an unsupported Fastest Known Time. Completing the course with husband Steve, not only is it 100 miles, but there is also 33,091 of elevation gain (check the partial graphic below). Running through sections with names of Tiger, Rattlesnake, Cougar, and more, they began the race with enough food to support them for 40 hours, and they would finish with just under 8 hours of vittles remaining, completing the course in 32 hours and 34 minutes. Take a look at Gina’s Facebook timeline for a rundown of their stops along the course, which finishes with her posting, “Time for a nap.”
