Gabe Grunewald is coaching Chip Gaines (of HGTV’s Fixer Upper and Magnolia fame) to his goal of running a marathon in 2018. On a run through Central Park in October 2017, Gabe and Chip connected when, “he just thought we were two crazy runners who could give him a little a running advice (which we did, at his request of course!),” per Gabe’s post on Instagram. In his first training log post on the Magnolia blog, Chip wrote of their chance meeting, “I asked her how long it would take for an average guy like me to train for a marathon, and she convinced me that with some old-fashioned hard work I could be ready by the beginning of summer.” As for his inaugural training run, he said, “Monday was my first official day of training, and all I can really say is—that hurt.” Read Chip’s full post, Training Log: My First Run on the At Home blog from Magnolia
Jasmin Stowers sets big goals for 2018. “While many may refer to 2018 as an ‘off-year’, given the absence of a global outdoor championships, Stowers sees it as anything but, and though she is polite and modest to a tee, she’s doesn’t hesitate when asked what would constitute a successful season,” which she states are, “to win a medal at world indoors, and also become the diamond league champion.” Read the full article, Stowers Eager to Make Her Mark in Birmingham on IAAF
Allie Kieffer has signed with Oiselle. “Allie has been a national class athlete since she graduated college in 2010, but after qualifying for and missing the Olympic Trials in 2012 with an injury, Allie made an attempt to ‘retire’ from the sport. Back in New York with a full-time job, her body repaired; the love of running and the desire to connect with the running community drew Allie back in.” Allie was flung into the spotlight following her incredible 5th place finish at the NYC Marathon in November, at which she set a 15 minute PR while negative splitting. Jared Ward will be competing at the Houston Half Marathon this weekend. In a post on Instagram, Jared wrote, “Decided last second on [the Chevron Houston Marathon] as a chance to qualify for the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain this March.”
