9 weeks to LA!

I’ve tried this blog thing before.  But, I think I was putting too much pressure on myself.  It had to be worthy.  It had to be perfect.  Who even cares anyway?  For years, if I Googled my name, “Esther Erb blog” would pop up as one of the suggestions.  I certainly wasn’t Googling that… so I guess at least somebody had been looking for it.

I’ve warmed up to Twitter and Facebook with shameless self promotion, making fun of myself, posting pictures of my neighbor’s dog, and sharing interesting articles that I think that people who “like” me might like.  And meanwhile, my husband Cole has shown me that keeping a weekly blog is possible if you stay on top of it, and that it doesn’t have to be that complicated.

Let’s start with this. A lot has happened in my life in the 14 months since October 5, 2014:

I became a US Marathon Champion and earned my first spot on a World Team.ErbFlag

I became an official member of the New York Athletic Club.

I got engaged to my sweet, hilarious man of the previous 5 years.

I joined on with Skechers!

I set new PRs at every distance on the track from 1600m to 10,000m and qualified for the Two Mile at USA Indoors (which is a big deal for this girl).

I spent the day in New York City with my sister Katie on the birthday of her 2nd child, Rae.

I left my first coaching job at Rider University to join Cole in North Carolina.IMG_2619

I moved into a little house in Blowing Rock, NC with my then fiancé.

I spent time in nearly all the places I’ve lived – Richmond, Cleveland, Vienna, Blowing Rock, and Central New Jersey.

I traveled to Asia for the first time ever and met some amazing people on the US World Team.

I raced in Beijing conditions that weren’t nearly as bad as I thought they would be and enjoyed every minute of representing the Red White and Blue.

started a new job as an assistant for the Appalachian State University Cross Country and Track programs

married my best friend Cole AtkinsIMG_4159

raced a little here and there through all of that

had a down week / mini honeymoon with Cole in Orlando and Charleston

started my 10-week build-up to the 2016 LA Olympic Trials

For a longer retrospective of my career, check out this awesome article that my college conference, UAA News just put out yesterday!

I’ve got some very exciting weeks ahead as the 4-year process of the road to LA 2016 comes to a close.  I’m very excited for these 9 final weeks of what has been a glorious process so far. See you next week!!
