Abbabiya “Biya” was born in Asela, Ethiopia, where he used to run to school about five miles total back and forth. At age 13 in 2007, his father moved the family to Houston, Texas, where he lived his first two years in the United States. When his mother took a job in Iowa, Biya lived in Sioux City and then spent a year in Minneapolis with his aunt. While in Minnesota, he got his start in competitive running on the track team and in his senior year back in Iowa, he also went out for cross country.
Biya ran…
I was very young when I came to America and I came with my brothers from Ethiopia. I am the only person who is a runner from my family. The funny thing is, before I came to American I did not like running because none of my family were involved in sports. I hated running when I was a little kid!. After coming to American one of my counselors just looked at me and said that I should do track and field, and I said OK. After that, I fell love with running. Off the track I am the regular person that who like to meet new people to make a friends.
I am the only runner and the first person to graduate from college in my family.
